In the heart of the rainy season, it’s easy to go from a dirty Honda side-by-side to a clean one and back again, even in the span of one ride. You might find your UTV needs a good wash after every ride. Or, at the very least, you’ll probably need to wash it more often to keep it clean and free of grime that might build up in the moving parts. To give you a hand, Loewer Powersports & Equipment has provided a guide to washing your Honda side-by-side. You can also stop by our location in Alexandria, Louisiana, for a chat with one of our friendly staff. We proudly serve the rest of Rapides Parish, as well as Lafayette.

Review Your Owner’s Manual

This might seem like a strange first step, but your owner’s manual is the best reference for all things pertaining to your Honda UTV. Even something as simple as keeping it clean. In the manual, you’ll find things like recommended products and best practices, especially in areas that might need special attention. If you can’t find your owner’s manual, check the Honda website for a downloadable copy.

Pre-Soak the Mud and Scrape

This step is going to be particularly important if some time has passed since you last road it. Some of the bigger chunks of mud will be easier to get off if you get them moist again. Hose down the side-by-side, let the water soak for a moment, then try scraping off some of the biggest pieces of dirt and mud. Just make sure the runoff goes somewhere it won’t muck up the environment. The street might be better than your garden or your neighbor’s yard.

Pressure Washing

Another great way to get off the top layer of dirt is to use a pressure washer. This will release water at such a velocity that it strips the dirt without damaging the UTV (as long as you’re careful). If you can’t find a pressure washer, or if you don’t have the money to rent one, you can use a hose and adjustable nozzle, set to the most focused setting.

Add Soap and Scrub

Now for scrubbing. Standard automotive detergent should work just fine Keep your Honda UTV wet and be sure to rinse off the suds as you finish. This way, the suds won’t dry on and force you to start all over. Use a top-down method to prevent dirtying areas you’ve already cleaned. Don’t forget the hard-to-reach corners inside the machine. Degreaser can help remove particularly stubborn oil. Once you’re all finished, give the entire UTV one final hose-down.

Time to Dry

Now it’s time to dry your Honda side-by-side. If it’s nice out, you might be able to let it sit in the sun and air-dry. If not, you’ll want to towel it off using a lint-free towel. For the hard-to-reach crevices, try an air compressor or blow dryer.

Waxing and Polishing

For an extra-special shine, consider adding a layer of wax and polish. Wax will provide you with a layer of added protection and polish will give your machine that fresh-off-the-lot look. Try to avoid getting these products on the seat, as this can make it slippery. And now, you’re finally done and ready for the next adventure.

Taking the time to clean your Honda side-by-side can help keep your machine clean and help you enjoy your ride just a little bit more. When you’re riding a UTV you’re proud of, you’re more likely to take it out as often as you can. But before you can hit the trails, you’ll need to find the perfect set of wheels!
