Storage Options
One way you may want to improve your motorcycle is by adding more storage options. Storage is often at a premium on bikes and if you want to do any motorcycle camping or long-distance touring trips, you’ll need more places for gear and supplies. Even on a short ride, you’ll still want to have a repair kit and a first aid kit as well as waterproof gear handy.
You can add saddlebags or luggage racks to your ride to increase storage, or windshield mounted bags for smaller items. Some storage options can be removed easily for when you don’t need them, and they’re portable enough that you can carry them inside with you if you have valuables within them. You will be able to find sleek options that will work with your bike’s aesthetic so they won’t look too bulky.
Bike Cover
Whether storing your bike for the night or the season, you’ll want to keep it protected. Leaving them exposed to the elements outside or even in a garage can mean dust and grime will build up or weather damage could occur. That’s why a well-fitting motorcycle cover is a wise investment. Your cover should be constructed of breathable fabrics that will prevent the buildup of moisture, and it should fit your bike snugly.
Windshields
Some motorcycles come with a windshield built into the front, but not all of them do! This is one accessory that will vastly improve your comfort. Windshields block you from being hit full-force with cold, harsh air, debris, bugs and wind so you’re less fatigued at the end of your ride.
There are permanent and removable options for windshields, so if you only want one some of the time, you can get one that detaches. Permanent styles take out any finagling from the process, though.
Two materials are used in the construction of windshields. Acrylic is the cheaper choice and it won’t yellow with time, but it does scratch more easily. Polycarbonate, on the other hand, is pricier but more durable, although it does have a tendency to yellow with time.
LED Lights
The standard halogen lights found on your motorcycle are fine, but they are the cheapest option and not as bright as they could be. If you ride often at night, you’ll want to upgrade your lighting to LEDs. These are brighter and more energy-efficient, so you don’t require as much power to run them. They cost more than halogen bulbs, but you’ll rake in savings over time from the energy you save. Colored lights can make your bike stand out from the crowd and allow you to express yourself when installed along your floorboards or saddlebags.
