ATV Camping Tips
If you want to take your camping trips to the next level, then you’ll want to bring along your ATV! You can spend all day tearing up the backwoods, return to camp to sleep, and repeat the next day. To help make your trip go smoothly, we created the following guide to ATV camping, so read on to learn more.
Planning Your ATV Trip
The more you plan in advance, the smoother your trip will go. You'll start by coordinating what destinations you want to visit and what campsites you want to use. Some people pick the campsite first, then find ATV trails nearby. Others start by finding ATV trails, then find a campsite nearby. Either strategy works great! Just try to book your site in advance since the good ones book quickly. Sometimes you can even save money by booking in advance.
Prepare Your Four-Wheeler
When you plan a trip around using your ATV, you’ll want to ensure your vehicle is up for the journey by conducting a pre-ride inspection. Here you are looking over your quad for any maintenance red flags. Do the lights work properly? Do the tires have the proper levels of tread and air pressure? Take your vehicle out for a test ride and make sure it handles braking, accelerating, and turning properly. If anything seems out of the ordinary, bring it to the service department at Loewer Powersports & Equipment. We can get it repaired in time for your camping trip!
Pack Strategically
It's tempting to bring anything and everything you could need on a camping trip. But it's a pain to lug all that gear in and out of the campsite. Stick with the bare basics such as shelter, clothing, medications, toiletries, food, and water. You likely won't need anything beyond that, and if you do, you can swing by a local grocery store and pick it up.
To save on space, go with travel-size versions of your products. You really don't need a whole bottle of shampoo, just a few squirts in a small bottle. You can also use backpacking equipment since those items are designed to be lightweight and take up a little amount of space.
Your Campsite
When booking your site, consider what amenities you need. Do you need a site that provides water or electricity, for example? Once you find a site that is close to those ATV trails and offers the features you need, book it!
When you arrive at the site, be selective about the spot you set up camp. Look for a flat patch of land as it'll be easier to sleep that way. Try to find a spot that's close enough to others to avoid animal encounters, but not so close that the traffic will keep you up. Once you unpack, you can go enjoy your ATV.
